Clap Your Hands As We Say “Nolza!”

Nolza! eh-eh Nolza! Nolza! eh-eh Nolza eh! This has been on repeat days before May 17, 2014. You wonder why? That day might be the biggest K-Pop day in the Philippines for this year. As one of the biggest and most populat K-Pop group held a concert as part of their world tour, here in Manila. No other than 2NE1 ~ Minzy, Bom, Dara and CL, are all present to showcase their talent to the Filipino Blackjacks.

Selca Time with Sherwin Unnie Before Concert Starts

I almost lose hope that I will not be able to watch my favourite KPop group as 3 weeks prior to the concert day, tickets were all sold out. Well, I really gave up but my ever reliable Sherwin-“unnie” didn’t stop. He bought the tickets a little more or less 24 hours before the concert! The only problem since I gave up on attending 2NE1’s All or Nothing in Manila three weeks prior, is my outfit.

At the last minute, I came up with this ensemble.

Let Them Haters Sit and Stare

The printed ‘fresh’ top is from “OXYGEN”. Just a year or two ago, Oxygen overhauled their approach to more British-European aesthetic. Very underground, street style that fits my own aesthetic. Every now and then, I make it a point to visit that shop. Asian fashion are big on street style. Take for instanve, Tokyo, Seoul, Hong Kong and of course Mani.a. The varsity jacket and leggings are both from “FOREVER21”. Instead of using the jacket as a jacket, I wrapped it around my waist as an accesory. The leggings are fashionable and comfortable at the same time. I am a big fan of blacks on whites or whites on black combination. Shoes are from “KICKERS” and two toned bag from “COTTON ON”.

I am so glad that we had the chance to see 2NE1 perform live. Yes, they sang all their songs live. The last KPop concert I went to, some of the artists didn’t perform live. That sets 2NE1 from the rest, they can sing live and they have their unique sense of style. No wonder their “New Evolution World Tour” was even hailed as one of the best concerts of 2012. The stage is on a different level. There are lights, fireworks, harness, elevating stage, moving stairs, you name it. Everything is a feast for the eyes and the ears.

Ugly Performance

The Manila leg of AON was a little bit more special as 2NE1 celebrated their 5th anniversary since their debut performance in Inkigayo and it was even touted as Sandara Park’s homecoming. How nice to hear that Dara can still talk straight Filipino and she never even changed a bit. She’s still the crazy, funny girl we used to know.

image

Happy Birthday 2NE1!

I have to give props to CL (She’s my favorite or “bias” as they term it in Korea) when she performed “The Baddest Female” and “Mental Breakdown”. She’s a total performer. She’s her own as no one can pull out that kind of energy, power in her peformances. She a really talented artist. As usual, Park Bom showed off her vocal prowess with high notes and Minzy danced like there is no tomorrow. All for members are exceptional. They really are the best KPop group, as this is my own opinion.

Explosive Stage and Performances

Naega Jeil Jal Naga

They opened the show with fist pumping, high energy performances of “Crush” which is my favourite track from their new album and their debut single “Fire”. I am so glad they all performed all my 2NE1 favourite songs like “Scream”, “Do You Love Me”, “I Love You”, “Lonely” and Naega Jeil Jal Naga or “I Am The Best”. I noticed that they weren’t able to perform 2013’s Kpop song of summer because of the reggae vibe, “Falling In Love”. These girls really set the world on firr with their performances. Hopefully, they’ll be back soon and they’ll release more songs, MVs and albums.

Giddy!

Can’t wait for the release of their new Japanese album later this month. I don’t know but I kind of like it better when a Korean artist releases a Japanese single. Like for example, I appreciate it better if SNSD or Girls’ Generation have a Japanese release. So weird right? Or is it because I can understand it better in Nihonggo? Hmmm…?

My Mixtape Playlist: October 2013

Here we go again regarding my most listened songs for this quarter. About five months ago, I posted my favorite tracks on a form of a blog entry.

Music plays a big role in my life. They are my companion for long ride to work, they are my to go to friend when I go shopping alone, and they are my lullaby. For my music choice for this quarter, it includes my all time favorite eccentric divas/songstress, a number of KPop acts (almost 50%, I cant be blame for they produce such catchy tones) and etc.

So here’s my so called “-Ber Months” playlist:

image

G-Dragon has multiple entry for this tracklist because he just dropped his newest LP, which I am currently obsessing. I love that there are more English lyrics on his newest album and specifically love the collaboration with Missy Elliot and Sky Ferriera.

Hope you liked my mixtape for this quarter, and I will try my best to make this a quarterly tradition to post my tracklisting.

So if ever you are wondering how my music player playlist looks like, here it goes:

Follow That Unicorn

Lady GaGa. My queen of pop. The image I look up to. Great performer. I need to change that to – great “LIVE” performer. A true artist who is not afraid to wear (or not to wear anything) what her desires are. An inspiration to a lot of people. Singer. Model. Icon. Mother Monster.

image

It’s been a year since Lady GaGa slayed the Manila concert scene. It has been one of the most memorable moments in my life. I know, I am being a fanboy here but I really dont care. Weeks before the “Born This Way Ball In Manila” a lot of drama happened surrounding the concert. The Philippine authorities are trying to stop the concert saying it’s too provocative for our culture. My say to that: quite a B.S. Well anyways, the concert still pushed through. Not just a one-night only concert but there is an encore the next night. I believe that was the first time that an international artist had a 2 night concert at the same venue. It is not just any venue but it was no less than the Mall of Asia Arena which surpassed Araneta Coliseum with the number of audience capacity. Lady GaGa’s Born This Way Ball was the first ever event that the Arena hosted, and we were there the first night. We like devirginized the venue.

Anyways, the concert itself was truly a showcase of what Lady GaGa is all about. There is a storyline to follow (same as for her first concert). It was really a spectacle to watch. From costumes, to lightings, to props and dancing. She opened the ball with “Highway Unicorn (Road To Love)” where there is a white horse emerging from the castle dropback. Well the other scenes are history and you might be bored if I blog each and every song and setlist. Though my faves performances were “Scheibe” where she donned a costume and dance ala Michael Jackson, “Bloody Mary” where she rode a automatic standing chair and she wore a white Filipiniana dress, of course the “Born This Way” performance was beyond beyond any words, and she closed the ball with “Marry The Night” where she sang the acapella version, piano version and the extended edit.

I really wished that I will be able to watch another Lady GaGa Ball-or-concert. She is indeed one of the best artist performer of this generation. Of course, I didn’t watch the Born This Way Ball all alone. I was with my super friends Amor and Ehlaine to share that particular moment. They may have blogged about the anniversary. So if you have the time feel free to visit their blogs at elhizamour.wordpress.com & ehleynespiritu.wordpress.com

Here’s what I wore for the Born This Way Ball. I wore my Uniqlo basic shirt with a high waisted denim shorts from TopShop. I accesorized with chains and studs. To finish off the look, I wore sheer stockings and hightops sneakers from K-Bond.

So, until the next concert experience. We are eyeing the Rihanna Diamonds World Tour In Manila this coming September.

Dear Mother Monster, if ever you will be able to read this, we are so itching for fresh music and out of this world music videos. Born This Way and The Fame Monster have been on repeat for quite sometime now. We need new materials from you asap.♕♬♪♩

If Mixtapes Are Still Popular, Here’s What My Tracklist Will Look Like

I’ve watched “Perks of Being A Wallflower” couple of times before and I really liked the idea of mixtapes. For those who doesn’t know what a mixtape is, it is just a tape where you record all your favorite songs into a one tape. So you dont need to bring out all your tapes just to play all your favorite songs. I remember back when I was in primary school, I have this hobby of making and recording mixtapes every weekend. I sometimes put a title on it like “Cheer Up”, “Girl Power”  etc.

For the modern counterpart of mixtapes we have the “playlist” in our music players. So does it make sense? Mixtapes nowadays are related to new artists who want to showcase their music to the public. One of the best mixtapes, I’ve listened (and downloaded) was Azealia Banks’s Fantasea mixtape which was released some time at the 3rd quarter of last year.

Since I was really inspired by the movie ‘Perks of Being A Wallflower”, here’s my tracklist for my mixtape aptly titled “Don’t Grime on the Last Days of Summer 2013”. Hope you enjoy my tracklisting.

Will.I.Am’s #WillPower

When you think of Will.I.Am’s music what comes into your mind? For me: sick beats, great collaborations with different sorts of artist and hiphop fused with pop. That’s what exactly his new album is all about.

image

#WillPower’s been pushed back a couple of time but finally it was out last month. One track missing was his collaboration with Jennifer Lopez and Mick Jagger titled “T.H.E”. It was not on the tracklist and anyways that was like released months and months ago.

My favorites off the album are “Gettin’ Dumb”, “Fall Down”, “Far Away From Home” and “Love Bullets”. “Gettin Dumb” is a great weekend anthem with good beats and vocals from KPop group 2NE1 and BEP’s Apl.De.Ap. Hopefully this particular singlr will get a music video treatment. I wonder what the members of 2NE1 will wear for the video. The track’s focal points are CL’s rapping skills and Bom’s voice for the chorus. Another fave of mine is “Fall Down”. Simple pop beats with Miley Cyrus. Miley is the perfect vocals for this song. What’s funny was Miley and Will.I.Am’s parts are exactly the same. “Far Away From Home” reminds me of arcade beats. The song was actually slow compared to other tracks. I cant help but compare “Love Bullets” to DJ Zedd’s Clarity. This song is a slow song and the chorus was really good. The lytics are well versed and well written. This can be a club-love song. “Bang Bang” has a 20s flair to it. I am not loving that particular single and it seems off from the album and the featued artist has done nothing but to sing like the word “Bang… Bang… Bang”. “Reach For The Stars” is a potential club starter. I can imagine it having multiple remix and clubs/ djs will surely love to add this song to their setlist. “The World Is Crazy” reminds me of BEP “Where Is The Love?” – Seriously great lyrics, slow beats, this song is gonna be big (just a hunch).

image

Overall, Will.I.Am’s album is good. There were like two off tracks like “Bang Bang” and “Good Morning” but the other tracks compensate for those minor glitches. Like I said, the next weekend I go clubbing, I will look forward to hear some of the tracks from the dj’s setlist. All the tracks have collaborations. I just wonder why Fergie and Taboo didnt have a track for this album?

PS. Since I was saying that I am looking forward to hear some of the tracks when I go clubbing, the tracks “Let’s Go” and “Geekin” were both played last night on the dj’s setlist. On my drive home earlier this morning, “Fall Down” was played by a local radio station. 😉
