Out To Play

Recently, we have been experiencing a bi-polar weather condition. Raining hard one hour then sun shining the next. It’s hard to keep up and plan your outfit for the day.

For a day out with my college bestfriend who recently returned home from abroad, I wore something comfortable and adaptable to the ever changing environment. It needs to be comfortable because I foresee that we will do some area hopping (Yes we did, from Greenhills to Ortigas to Mandaluyong to Ortigas).

The Dogs and Leopard Are Out To Play

Top is from Harajuku brand WEGO. Bottom black shorts from UNIQLO. Boots from MILANO. Leopard print bag from Italian brand OVS.

If you notice, almost no hint of accessories except for the statement ring-slash-watch for I am going for a lazy day and “not-so-put up” look. I promise that on my next few outfit posts, I will incorporate accessories again. I need to do some major accessories shopping soon. I need to know new accessories shops so please let me know and shoot me an email at orangediaz28@gmail.com . I need your help with accessories hunting.

Taken at the NEW Subspace Coffee

I am the type of person who prefers sunny days over rainy days. So hopefully, the weather improves in the next couple of days and wishing that it is summer in Manila right now just like in Tokyo.

Some side photos: me and my college best friend goofing around with pictures (as we termed it “photofest”). Mwah!

Flower and Cafe – Flafe

Flowers and coffee, such a cute combination right? The concept of flowers and coffee is not really new but combined with a very good ambiance, it would be the perfect coffee date with friends.

There’s a new coffee house in my favorite part of Metro Manila, Ortigas Center. Flower is a common sight and coffee is the main course being served. Remember how I wish like a few posts ago that another quaint coffee shop will open and viola, it was answered very quickly. Run and owned by a Korean, the boutique coffee house really represent all sort Korean. From the background music ranging from KPop ballads from the like of IU, to the desserts that are very Korean, it seems you are easily transported to some small coffee shop in Busan, Korea. The place is well-decorated with flower adornments which you can’t help but snap those pictures away. Take a picture with your friends as the place will give you that “oh-so-nice” feeling while the coffee is being brewed.

What I really liked aside from the range of coffee and teas they provide, they have a modest set of cupcakes and pastries in store. Though I haven’t tried them yet but I already made a mental note that on my next visit, I will surely try those baked goodies. They look delish but the last few occasions I visited the shop, I was really full and was just looking for some desserts.
image

On my second visit to the shop, I didn’t pass up the chance to try those “Patbingsu” as what the owner and the baristas said are like the Philippines’ Halo-halo. When you taste the bingsu, it would taste like the normal halo-halo less the dozens of ingredients added. Instead of comparing it to halo-halo, I prefer to compare bingsu to Japanese kakigori. Well, whatever they call it – kakigori, bingsu or halohalo, it was really a tasty and cold treat.

Did I pass on to taste coffee, of course not!

I really enjoyed the place and planning to visit it more. Since the shop just recently opened, hopefully they can offer more in terms of food and drink but enough said, I really recommend “Flafe – Flower and Café”. How nice they thought of the name right? Did you even notice it?

Flafe – Flower and Café is located at 118 Grand Emerald Tower Ortigas Jr Road Ortigas Center

Base Versus Pattern

It feels like ages since the last time I posted an outfit post. Two months have gone by and Ive been reading books and drinking coffee and milk teas. Going forward, I decided not to include on my other diaries my outfit posts so that it would be a little bit organized for me.

Fridays are really a very casual day for me as I prefer to be on my most comfortable pair of trousers and a simple shirt on Fridays. No frills, just simply comfortable. I can be on my PJs all day long if I dont have work.

So what I wore on my lazy day outfit: Basic tee is from Topman; Jeggings (Jeans and Leggings) from Uniqlo; shoes from Milano by SM. For the past few months, I love pairing complex and basics. Just like on this particular outfit, I love how complex and graphic the jeggings are and I even love it more paired with a very basic shirt.  I just noticed that Ive been going for the gray hue closet.I really wonder why I am so attracted with grays and a lot of grays? 50 Shades of Grey? Hahahaha…

Noticed anything drastic? Yes, I finally colored my hair black all of the sudden. Not really planning to stay brunette for a long time. Do you like my hair blonde or brunette? Still getting used to with darker hair, adjusting colors for my face and all because it seems that my tone became fairer all of the sudden. Though to be honest, I prefer the “Blonde” me.

Reading Club: The Selection

Whenever I go to a bookstore, I go directly to my favorite section ~ Young Adult. I am a big fan of young adult genre. There’s a tons of topics that young adult books tackle. Not argueable, the most popular topic is love. What makes young adult books enticing to me is the fact that it balances adventure and finding true love storylines. I might be a hopeless romantic who believes in the cliche “happily-ever-after”.

image

Last book I’ve read before the third book of the Selection series was “The Fault in our Stars” (which you can read more by clicking HERE). I discovered “The Selection” series more or less a year ago. The series is composed of three books and three special side story e-books (one will be released a little bit later, based on FantasticFiction). The story revolves around America Singer who was raised as a lowly “5” in the caste system of the new world as she joined a reality show (like?) to be the partner for the next king. The series can be considered as a dystopian novel though this is very different from the other dystopian novels I’ve recently read for the fact that the main theme of the series is love and romance. Selection series is very reminscent of a popular TV series “The Bachelor” though this time around the searchee for love is a prince named Maxon. A novel is never complete without a love angle(s). Yes, we love those complicated storyline that makes us fall in love more with the protagonist of the story and we are torn between the two love interests of the protagonist. Not really a unique idea for any books or story. 😉

image

image

I’ve been dying to share this series because I love it so much. There are those “kilig” (translation: sweet) moments in every book and will make you want to read more. I especially liked how Kiera Cass wrote the last chapters for books 1 and 2 as they are both cliff hangers and you will surely want to wait for the next one. Just like I waited for 10 months for the release of the final book. The progression of storyline is not as fast paced as the other books I’ve read over the years but I love it because it makes me connect more with the series and want to read more about the characters. I really wanted to write/ share about the details of the storyline but I am desperately trying not to so to avoid spoilers (as I hate reading spoilers too) 😉 Though I have to say the end of book three is what I had in mind when I first started to read book one, because from the title itself it is like a giveaway. Ok, I know, I will not add any more details. What makes this series great are those side stories that are as engaging as the main storyline. The “Selection” is my type of book. A hodgepodge of romance, adventure and drama. Definitely a must-read, I promise you that the series is not too young for anyone to read it. Hopefully, if you decide to read the books, you’ll enjoy it as much as I enjoyed the entire series.

Sober or Tipsy Coffee?

Growing up, I am not a fan of coffee. I like my drinks frothy and milky. So any day you would ask me: milktea? OR coffee? My automatic response would be milktea.

Coffee!

Wall Art

Later on, I developed a taste for coffee. Though if you’ll see me ordering one in a coffeeshop and ask the barista what I usually order, they always say, “That drink is too sweet!”. Like I said, I prefer my coffee frothy and milky plus a loads of sweet added- that is why Splenda is my coffee bestfriend. 😉

Just a few days back, my college friends introduced me to “hole in a wall” coffeehouse which coincidentally located where our family used to live like 12 years ago. I never had the chance to revisit “my hometown” and it was really nostalgic to finally revisit the area. Too bad that we agreed to visit the coffeehouse a little late, I was not able to drop by or visit some of my childhood friends’ place.

2nd Floor Coffeehouse

Tipsy Beans is coffeehouse that of course serves coffee with a little bit of twist. They have a whole line where coffee or drinks are mixed with liquor. Though the idea of mixing liquor with coffee is not a new thing for me as I tried it some years back. I have to say that their coffee really tastes nice and milky (just the way I like it). The place has an ambiance of privacy though you will never feel claustrophobic. The lights are not dimmed but still very homey and relaxing.

One of the reasons I like going to coffeehouses is to oogle to their interiors and designs. Countries like Japan and Korea have small coffeehouses that are well designed. I even watched somewhere that in Korea, those little coffeehouses can only accomodate 5 people the most at a time. Philippines, specifically Manila, is following that trend. Remember Subspace Coffeehouse? (You can read about Subspace by clicking HERE) Hopefully more and more coffeehouses like Subspace and Tipsy Beans will open soon. Anyways, I am eye-ing one coffeehouse in Manila and I am dying to visit the place for a year now but I don’t have the chance yet. Maybe next month or next week?

Of course food and drinks are part of the reasons to visit coffeehouses. What differs Tipsy Beans from others is their line of food and drinks with liquor like rhum, whiskey, vodka among others.

Pardon My Little Rant

Today, I finally decided to change the header of my blog for I am really envious with those blogs who have cute and personalized header. I tried making one today and I was kind of successful in doing so. Let me ask you to be the judge if the header is so me or not:

image

I am so proud of myself for being able to come up with this BUT now the main problem (after busying myself for more than an hour of doing the header), unfortunately my new theme would not let me upload it without really messing up the pic. So poor me!

I really need help to have the photo/ header changed to a certain pixel. I wanna cry so hard because I can’t upload it properly.

Sometimes, I can be a cry baby. 😉

Stay tuned for I have an upcoming entry within 24 hours (whether I’ll be able to change the header or not)

Reading Club: The Fault In Our Stars

I’ve always been a bookworm way before I started school. I love reading and it has become one of my favorite past if I have the luxury of time. When I was a child, I had this fascination with books and I thought that when I grow up, I’ll work around books and literature. Time passed so quickly, that I almost forgot that one dream but my relationship with books never faded. Well in fact, I love literature more and I am now more open minded on reading new stuff. Thanks to this blog, I am now able to fulfill one of my long lost dreams, to be able to write, read and share what I’ve read.

image

This pretty much summarizes the book 😉

Whoa, that was so dramatic and at the same time, a very long introduction. OK. This blog entry is about one of the books I recently finished which is The Fault in Our Star by highly acclaimed author John Green.  Be warned though, I might slip some spoiler so if you have never read that book (and intend to do so) please skip this entry.

The Fault in Our Star is a very touching novel about finding love and relevance in this world. It tells the story of Hazel Grace, a cancer patient and how she finds loved in the midst of her condition. The story started a cancer support group and at the opening chapter of the book, it immediately showcased all the important characters in the novel. The story revolves around Hazel Grace and Augustus Waters as they take part on learning what is their relevance on this world and how they can leave a mark on this world, with a little help from An Imperial Affliction, a book about a cancer patient.

I hate myself as this is another book turned into a movie that I missed on the theater as I was so busy the last few weeks that I need to cancel a movie date. The last time I had this regrettable moments was when The Perks of Being a Wallflower was shown in theaters some years ago. So I guess, I need to wait for the DVD release of The Fault in Our Stars.

There are a lot of memorable lines/ quotes  from that book that I need share them:

My Fave Quote From The Book

For me the ending of the book is quite predictable as you are reading at the middle of the book. You know that this will happen and so on. I have that feeling at that part of the story that Hazel and Augustus visited Amsterdam. Nevertheless, I can definitely say that this is one book that you should not miss if you are tired of reading those big city novels or those widely popular dystopian novels. It is quite a refreshing break for me as I was reading Matched Series by Ally Condie, Veronica Roths Divergent before this.

My fave part

Hope youll enjoy this book as much as I do and that is why I took the time to blog about this book. I really wished that I have not missed watching it on the big screen as they said that the adapted version is well done.

Do not mistaken it for a KDrama. I love "You Who Came from the STAR" too.

I am now finishing Kiera Casss The One from The Selection Series. Maybe I’ll write an entry on that series because I am enjoying it so much.
