Follow That Unicorn

Lady GaGa. My queen of pop. The image I look up to. Great performer. I need to change that to – great “LIVE” performer. A true artist who is not afraid to wear (or not to wear anything) what her desires are. An inspiration to a lot of people. Singer. Model. Icon. Mother Monster.

image

It’s been a year since Lady GaGa slayed the Manila concert scene. It has been one of the most memorable moments in my life. I know, I am being a fanboy here but I really dont care. Weeks before the “Born This Way Ball In Manila” a lot of drama happened surrounding the concert. The Philippine authorities are trying to stop the concert saying it’s too provocative for our culture. My say to that: quite a B.S. Well anyways, the concert still pushed through. Not just a one-night only concert but there is an encore the next night. I believe that was the first time that an international artist had a 2 night concert at the same venue. It is not just any venue but it was no less than the Mall of Asia Arena which surpassed Araneta Coliseum with the number of audience capacity. Lady GaGa’s Born This Way Ball was the first ever event that the Arena hosted, and we were there the first night. We like devirginized the venue.

Anyways, the concert itself was truly a showcase of what Lady GaGa is all about. There is a storyline to follow (same as for her first concert). It was really a spectacle to watch. From costumes, to lightings, to props and dancing. She opened the ball with “Highway Unicorn (Road To Love)” where there is a white horse emerging from the castle dropback. Well the other scenes are history and you might be bored if I blog each and every song and setlist. Though my faves performances were “Scheibe” where she donned a costume and dance ala Michael Jackson, “Bloody Mary” where she rode a automatic standing chair and she wore a white Filipiniana dress, of course the “Born This Way” performance was beyond beyond any words, and she closed the ball with “Marry The Night” where she sang the acapella version, piano version and the extended edit.

I really wished that I will be able to watch another Lady GaGa Ball-or-concert. She is indeed one of the best artist performer of this generation. Of course, I didn’t watch the Born This Way Ball all alone. I was with my super friends Amor and Ehlaine to share that particular moment. They may have blogged about the anniversary. So if you have the time feel free to visit their blogs at elhizamour.wordpress.com & ehleynespiritu.wordpress.com

Here’s what I wore for the Born This Way Ball. I wore my Uniqlo basic shirt with a high waisted denim shorts from TopShop. I accesorized with chains and studs. To finish off the look, I wore sheer stockings and hightops sneakers from K-Bond.

So, until the next concert experience. We are eyeing the Rihanna Diamonds World Tour In Manila this coming September.

Dear Mother Monster, if ever you will be able to read this, we are so itching for fresh music and out of this world music videos. Born This Way and The Fame Monster have been on repeat for quite sometime now. We need new materials from you asap.♕♬♪♩

Perk Me Up

I hate the feeling of being sick. I cant do what I usually want to do for the day. It makes me wanna go home asap and lay in bed and sleep and be a bum. But what really perks you up when you are sick (or feeling sick?)? For some it might be tons of chocolates, some might say milktea? For me, it’s actually watching my favorite movie of all time ~ “Breakfast At Tiffany’s”. For me that movie is so magical. The opening scene is just so perfect. You wished you lived from that era wearing the best clothes and eating croissant (or whatever bread it is) while glancing at Tiffany’s & Co. window display. In my opinion, “Breakfast at Tiffany’s” is so perfect that I will not get tired watching it everyday.

image

I dont really know what’s with that movie but it has it’s instant perk-me-up effect on me. That is the essence of a favorite movie, it lightens your mood even you are sickest to your bones.

So what’s your fave movie that has a great effect on you?

So what’s next? I need a good laugh and I will be perfect again.☆

Some Baby Gone Astray ~ Old Photo.

Last weekend, I happened to look for old photos so that I can put a picture of mom and me for mother’s day. For more than that, I happened to discover some serious cute photos of me back when I was 4 or 5 years old. How time flies. What’s really funny was back then I really love to pose for the camera, no wonder. Another funny thing was I used to have this full bangs even when I was a child. As Japanese people would say, “kawaii!”.

Hope you will discover some kawaii photos in your old vaults. It’s time to reminisce and smile at your young selves.

That’s me posing with the tiger (or is it a lion?) wearing orange shirt and leggings like bottom. The shoes are like so fab. Wonder where mom bought that? Maybe it came from Japan or what not?

If Mixtapes Are Still Popular, Here’s What My Tracklist Will Look Like

I’ve watched “Perks of Being A Wallflower” couple of times before and I really liked the idea of mixtapes. For those who doesn’t know what a mixtape is, it is just a tape where you record all your favorite songs into a one tape. So you dont need to bring out all your tapes just to play all your favorite songs. I remember back when I was in primary school, I have this hobby of making and recording mixtapes every weekend. I sometimes put a title on it like “Cheer Up”, “Girl Power”  etc.

For the modern counterpart of mixtapes we have the “playlist” in our music players. So does it make sense? Mixtapes nowadays are related to new artists who want to showcase their music to the public. One of the best mixtapes, I’ve listened (and downloaded) was Azealia Banks’s Fantasea mixtape which was released some time at the 3rd quarter of last year.

Since I was really inspired by the movie ‘Perks of Being A Wallflower”, here’s my tracklist for my mixtape aptly titled “Don’t Grime on the Last Days of Summer 2013”. Hope you enjoy my tracklisting.

Will.I.Am’s #WillPower

When you think of Will.I.Am’s music what comes into your mind? For me: sick beats, great collaborations with different sorts of artist and hiphop fused with pop. That’s what exactly his new album is all about.

image

#WillPower’s been pushed back a couple of time but finally it was out last month. One track missing was his collaboration with Jennifer Lopez and Mick Jagger titled “T.H.E”. It was not on the tracklist and anyways that was like released months and months ago.

My favorites off the album are “Gettin’ Dumb”, “Fall Down”, “Far Away From Home” and “Love Bullets”. “Gettin Dumb” is a great weekend anthem with good beats and vocals from KPop group 2NE1 and BEP’s Apl.De.Ap. Hopefully this particular singlr will get a music video treatment. I wonder what the members of 2NE1 will wear for the video. The track’s focal points are CL’s rapping skills and Bom’s voice for the chorus. Another fave of mine is “Fall Down”. Simple pop beats with Miley Cyrus. Miley is the perfect vocals for this song. What’s funny was Miley and Will.I.Am’s parts are exactly the same. “Far Away From Home” reminds me of arcade beats. The song was actually slow compared to other tracks. I cant help but compare “Love Bullets” to DJ Zedd’s Clarity. This song is a slow song and the chorus was really good. The lytics are well versed and well written. This can be a club-love song. “Bang Bang” has a 20s flair to it. I am not loving that particular single and it seems off from the album and the featued artist has done nothing but to sing like the word “Bang… Bang… Bang”. “Reach For The Stars” is a potential club starter. I can imagine it having multiple remix and clubs/ djs will surely love to add this song to their setlist. “The World Is Crazy” reminds me of BEP “Where Is The Love?” – Seriously great lyrics, slow beats, this song is gonna be big (just a hunch).

image

Overall, Will.I.Am’s album is good. There were like two off tracks like “Bang Bang” and “Good Morning” but the other tracks compensate for those minor glitches. Like I said, the next weekend I go clubbing, I will look forward to hear some of the tracks from the dj’s setlist. All the tracks have collaborations. I just wonder why Fergie and Taboo didnt have a track for this album?

PS. Since I was saying that I am looking forward to hear some of the tracks when I go clubbing, the tracks “Let’s Go” and “Geekin” were both played last night on the dj’s setlist. On my drive home earlier this morning, “Fall Down” was played by a local radio station. 😉

Black Is My Cup of Tea

Black. What comes into your mind whenever you think if this particular color? Some might think gloom but for me it’s classic, flexibility and fashion.

For me, black is classic because of the black and white films. Oh my gosh, aint they so glamorous back then wearing black head-to-toe ensemble with black fur, black diamonds and black shoes. The flapper era, everyone is just so fabulous.

Whenever I wear black, it boosts my confidence. I can’t properly explain it but I feel so comfortable with wearing black. Let’s just say that black is one of my favorite color and with an approximate percentage of 30% black in my closet right now.

For today, I wore a black ensemble. Black long sleeved, striped shirt from Maldita paired with black leatherette leggings from Una Rosa. Maldita and Una Rosa are both chain stores which showcase great designs, classic wear and majorly black pieces. To contrast the all black ensemble, I wore the Japanese inspired shoes from Rajo Laurel. Again, no accesories for today, just my Kate Spade neutral bag.

image

Speaking of flapper era, I really wanted to watch “The Great Gatsby”. So excited to watch it, all costume were made by no less than the Muiccia Prada. I really wonder if “The Great Gatsby” is a musical or not. Well whatever it is, I am looking forward to see the film.

Neutrals on Mother’s Day

Mother’s Day. Not considered as a holiday but one of the most important days to pay homage to the best woman in our lives.

I woke up very early today and as part of my routine, after breakfast (to be honest, before breakfast), I checked Facebook, Instagram and Twitter on my phone. And guess what, almost everyone had a tweet, status update, new photo about their own mothers. I just love reading to those stuff. Everyone is a buzz for this day. As an active social network citizen, before I went to sleep last night, and it so happened that I slept around 2AM (earlier today), I posted an old picture of mom with me and my big brother. Old pictures are my thing right now, and I even discovered an old picture of me and I am thinking to post it soon and already thinking of a perfect caption. Back to mother’s day, I think they should seriously pass a bill about making this day a legit holiday.

image

What I remember the most about mother’s day way when I was so young was that we are always go to some beach. Driving on some freeway with that Spice Girls song on the background aptly titled “Mama”. It is like a family tradition that the whole family is on a weekend getaway for the Mother’s Day weekend. I miss doing that weekend thing with the family.

For this year, me and mama just had a quiet dinner near our place. There is that artsy cafe/ bistro just a 10 minute drive from our place. Dont you worry, I am already working on blog entry for “AngNewNo Cafe” and it is either tomorrow or the day after tomorrow that I will be able to post my entry about the cafe.

image

image

image

For the mother’s day date, I wore my comfy Dean & Trent minute plaid prints shorts, paired it with neutral polo shirt and finished it a Rajo Laurel Japanese shoesies. No accessories added because I am too lazy to wear some and it is so freaking hot (lame excuses) and I just had my neutral colored sling bag that matched my polo shirt. Very easy breezy look perfect for a quiet early dinner to an artsy cafe.

image

By next year, mom will be celebrating “grandparents’ day”, which would be her first, because my brother’s wife is expecting. I really wish that it would be a girl so I will be able to style the baby. 😉 Irregardless what is the gender of the baby, I will be a proud uncle and will love him-or-her like my own.

Ma, I so love you. I dedicate this blog entry for you. More mother’s day to come.

Dull (or Doll?) Saturday

Way way back, I really thought that when I grow up, I will be working for a magazine. To be exact a fashion magazine. I cant remember exactly at what age I had my first fashion moment. All I can remember is that one of cousins, had this big fascination with Mariah Carey. All she does is to wear her hair like Mariah’s – big curly hair less the blondeness. With my cousin’s fascination, it introduced me to fashion. Aside from the fact that one of my aunts who lives overseas is a big all out fashionista. She got the style and grace that whenever she goes back here she always get usual second glances and head turns. She has been my fashion inspiration as a child. And of course, my mom is always the big fashion guru up until now and still advises me if I am wearing something right or wrong, and she never discouraged me to wear something very uncommon. She always believe that you should wear what you feel like wearing.

Going back to my dream of working for a fashion magazine. So you are probably wondering why I am giving throwbacks, etc. Well here how it goes: my Saturday is actually a blank day for me. How ironic right? Today is the only day that I dont have a scheduled thingie, and mom is not around, I cant ask her to have lunch/ dinner somewhere. So as a free vacant day, I browsed through some DVDs we had. And viola! I find my “Devil Wears Prada” DVD. If I have to choose among all the fashion films, I have to say that DWP is my top pick. Come on do the equation: fashion + magazine + my dream of working for a fashion magazine. Hello, that is so me. I can still remember the first time I watched the film, I had like goosebumps due to excitement. I happened to read the book after I watched the film. I have to say that they are two entirely different entities. The ending is totally different for the book and the movie. Well anyways, I still adore the film & the book in their own ways.

image

image

How very timely as well that I’ve watched The Devil Wears Prada because the sequel for the book will be released in about a month’s time. So saying that: I should finish the book I’m currently reading and reserve my copy for the sequel.

image

Hopefully, someday, I will be able to work for a fashion magazine but not like Andrea but I want to work as a fashion editor who writes about fashion and life. Just a question, “Am I actually doing it right now through this blog?”

Speaking of magazines, I am so obsessed with Preview Magazine’s May cover with the triamvuriate of Miss Universe featuring Venus Raj, Shamcey Supsup and Janine Tugonon. Burberry, grace, beauty queens and darkened skin – hello high fashion edits.

Exposures: What I Wore

Today’s ensemble is a complete turn-around of what I am supposed to wear today. Originally, I planned to wear a stripped loose shirt paired with a “Cotton On” leggings but decided on the last minute that I dont like it for some reason.

image

So instead, I changed the top into a super basic white shirt and put on my ever reliable blazer. Which I have to say that the jacket/ blazer is such an investment because I can wear it to whatever season we are in. I paired it with Rajo Laurel Japanese inspired shoes. As for toppings, I decided to wear a black triangle pendant necklace. The ensemble is very summer season friendly. Right?

Exposure

Fridays. The best day of the week, excluding weekend of course. This is the day that signifies the end of another hectic work week. The day when you can stay out longer before heading home, and sometimes you dont even care what time you arrive home (either it is still Friday or if it is already a Saturday), because there’s no work tomorrow. It is the perfect time to expose everything and vent out for how hectic/ tiring/ dragging week that was.

Friday for me is always the icing on top of my red velvet cupcake. It is the perfect time to have dinner with friends, shop a little bit, stroll anywhere, have coffee or simply have a great conversation with friends (and dont forget: laugh all you want). Eventhough the entire week was a drag, I really wonder what’s with Friday that it still make me smile, laugh and simply enjoy it. I managed to still have enough energy saved for Friday.

As for this particular Friday, I had a nice dinner with my work friends on a pizza bistro near our office. As usual, some very interesting things have been exposed. I will not go through it here because some are too personal and doesnt even involve me at all. Though some are just so plain hilarious that I cant help but smile and grin up until this moment when I remember those funny things. After that very loud dinner, we moved to our favorite coffee house. We learned to play a new “shallow” game: we think of someone we know that resembles the person who happened to pass our table. We even had this very weird agreement that we will not go home until a stranger will walk-by who look like one of our co-worker. That’s quite a challenge since that particular officemate is so unique in her own way. After like laughing, talking and playing that game for almost 2 hours, we finally gave in and decided to go home instead. Well that was my Friday. Hope you enjoyed the start of the weekend as much as I did.

Here’s my tweet just like hours/ minutes ago.

image

And I think that this would be the perfect time to be productive and work more on my blog. Since, I have some inspiration for my blog entries.

I will be working now on my next entry: Exposures: What I Wore.

image

Lastly, I love Fridays because it makes me look back on my week and appreciate the week it was.

Just a thought: Do someone really watch “Nikita”? I am so random right? 😉
